POSITIVE IMPACTS PROJECT (PIP)

The Norwich and Norfolk Race Equality Council (NNREC) and Ipswich and Suffolk Council for Racial Equality (ISCRE) are successfully delivering a Positive Impacts Project – funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government under the Migrant Impact Fund. The project is based upon a cross-county partnership between 2 Race Equality Councils to ensure consistency and sustainability in the delivery of equality and quality based advice and advocacy services throughout the two counties of Norfolk and Suffolk.ISCRE and NNREC have formed this partnership to increase the capacity to address common issues of rural isolation.

The key aim of this project is to build the capacity of Migrant Workers, through the provision of advice and advocacy and generating an increase in the capacity of the BME 3rd Sector and the wider voluntary / community sectors across the 2 counties. The outcome of the project is to provide the skills and knowledge base in order that they become stronger, responsive and more inclusive thus reducing the negative impact on services. This will be achieved through the provision of training, including a series of linked activities delivered by and with the communities ensuring improved partnership working, subsequent access to services and a legacy of support beyond the time-scale of the project, which will assist to reduce tensions, build cohesive communities and relationships between public service providers and all the users of their services

In order to share success and address issues, an East of England regional conference is planned which will include input from local, regional and national levels

The topics for discussion at the conference will come under:

         • Advice and Guidance Services - the keynote speaker will talk about the difficulty faced by migrant workers when accessing advice and how this negatively impacts on wider community issues. The preliminary results of the research to advice agencies which is part of the project activity will also be shared in this segment

         • Access to Services – the keynote speaker, a managing partner of a local law firm, will talk about the difficulty faced by migrant workers when accessing services and the importance of responsive locally delivered services

         • Public Duties – the keynote speaker from the Equality and Human Rights Commission Legal team will talk about the legal public duties on providers of services particularly as they affect migrant workers

         • Hate Crime Buddy Scheme – the keynote speaker will talk about migration, rural racism and the importance of the buddy scheme in order to reduce racial tension and negative impact on services
