BAME Domestic Abuse Webinar
Discussing and exploring domestic abuse within the BAME community

Event details

ISCRE (Ipswich and Suffolk Council for Racial Equality) and the Ipswich and East Suffolk CCG would like to invite you to a webinar for a discussion on domestic abuse within the BAME community.

Why focus on the BAME community? Inequality for minority groups is widespread and extends to the criminal justice system, healthcare, housing and schooling. The Office for National Statistics (2019) data shows that in the year 2018-2019, the rates of domestic abuse amongst BAME communities were higher than their white counterparts, and rates of domestic abuse were highest amongst those of mixed ethnicity.

We have brought together voices who work and support our community. They offer personal and professional experiences along with practical ways to support those affected by domestic abuse. Our speakers are:

  • Katherine Ahluwalia (Training Manager) Lighthouse Women’s Aid
  • Mollin Delve (Director) PHOEBE
  • Bal Howard – Expert on BAME Domestic Abuse / Honour Abuse / Child Forced Marriage

The session will be culturally sensitive, unbiased and anonymous. We will also have a community-based GP on hand to provide clinical answers to your questions and provide feedback when needed. ISCRE will be on hand to facilitate the session.

  • GP: Dean Dorsett
